| Interesting website and very informative. I found your website accidentally, when I was searching the Internet for information in connection w/the Hungarian-Swiss military historian, Peter Gosztonyi's book "The Hungarian Army in the Second World War". I also discovered some (for me) new information. Thank you. LGF. |

| I would like to add that I was born in 1939 and we lived right next to a POW camp in Huyton Merseyside,I remember well walking round the camp with my older brother and the internees used to speak to us through the barbed wire,at that camp part of it was brand new council house`s that had just been built where the internee`s where billitted and when they left the new tenant`s discovered the most beautiful mural`s that the inmate`s had drawn, hard but happy day`s. |

Dear Sir,
My congratulations on a very good website! I noticed it when my great-nephew was searching it a few weeks ago.
It is a shame that Britain's post-war history is not as explored more often!
With kind regards, -- Clifford Rose

Dudes,
Really great, informative website. I've been captivated all morning. I'm particularly impressed with the balance struck between the technical details provided and the more visceral first and second person accounts of Island Farm.
Thanks from Canada for all the time and effort you've put into this gret website! |

| I was born in Merthyr Mawr Village. My mum was a little girl during WW11 and remembers the German Officers making toys for her and the other children in the village. It is alleged that my grandad who was in the home guard on the night of the escape pointed one of the officers in the direction of the coast , not realising who he was! |

An incredible resource... probably the single best WWII website I've come across in more than 2 years of research on this tragic war. I hope you can continue to add to it, and improve upon it's depth.
As an aside, it is truly a disgrace the way in which some of the German senior officers (von Rundstedt comes to mind) were treated after this war. No doubt driven by the politics of pleasing the Soviets at the time, but nevertheless a disgrace to the honor of most of those men, and the service they gave to their country. A duty any of us would have answered should we have been called, though unlikely as well performed. |

Have just surfed in - very interesting site. However, I couldn't find the Italian Prisoner of War Camp at the village of HEDON, east of Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. I believe the prisoners who wanted to used to help on the local farms. The huts were still standing when I left Hedon 1966. Good luck in your endeavours. Rena in Lancashire.

| Very informative. My grandfather Coloman Revesz succeeded in having his brother-in-law Major General noble Jeno Bor de Halmaji repatriated in 1946. I have always wondered if Uncle Jeno was convicted on any war crimes, or simply interned because of his rank. |

What an excellent site. Well done. I was born ( Jan. 1939 ) and grew up in Aston - in - Makerfield, Lancs. I well recall the pow camp out on the Haydock Road - the M.6 motorway runs over part of it now.
On the opposite side of the road was Haydock Park Racecourse on which the USA forces had a camp. Much more interesting to small boys because chocolate was available from the servicemen ! Something we did not get much of in the war years.
On Saturdays on payment of 1old penny you could enter the camp to watch the football match . I recall a rather tall chap playing on the wing who took over as goalkeeper one week a position he went onto play for Manchester City after the war. Bert Truatman ( the spelling may not be correct ) there was the famous cup final where he played for most of the game with a broken neck !!
But I'm sure you will know all of this. Many thanks for all the hard work that must have gone into producing your excellent site. Sam

| Found you while trying to find out about the pow camp behind my father's house when he was a boy. He used to play football with the Italian POWs,(and eat their chocolate!)From your list it must have been Stanhope in Ashford, Kent. Very useful site. Thank you. |

| Great site...Very interesting and well done...Regarding the unknown signatures, could the one that you potentially identified as being Bormann(lower right)..Could that be "General Arnim" who was captured in Tunisia in '43? ...Just a thought...Thanks again for the great site & greetings from New Jersey, USA. |
