Hello Brett, thanks for the info that sounds logical, although it doesn't work regarding my uncle! He was captured in October 1944 in Belgium by American troops, was assigned an American PoW number (31G-XXXXXX) and a couple of weeks later he was sent to a Texan PoW Camp via England. When the American camps were closed down in early 1946 my uncle was sent back to Europe and suddenly found himself in British custody! He was assigned a British PoW number (B XXXXXX) and ended up in several British PoW Camps until March 1948 when he was finally repatriated.
