Hello, I am researching the history of German PoWs in American and British hands during and after WW II. One of the greatest mysteries to me is the system of British Serial Numbers allocated to the German PoWs. I have seen serial numbers starting with an "A" followed by six digits as well as numbers starting with a "B" followed by six digits! Could someone please explain the Bristish system to me? What did the letters "A" and "B" mean? Is there any info hidden in that six digits? I am greatful for any additional input. Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Best wishes from Germany Stefan
