Hello,my grandfather Heinrich Voss, born 1902, was a p.o.w. in a camp at Merrington Green near Bomere Heath from late 1944 until the camp was closed in 1947. He didn't talk much about the war, but I think he was captured after the battle of Falaise in july 1944. He first worked on a farm in Loppington before he was sent to the farmer's brother, Bob Burden, at Brandwood Farm. From summer 1945 my grandfather lived on the farm until the camp was closed. Because the camp administration forgot him, he was one of the last p.o.w. to be sent home. There was another german p.o.w. with my grandfather. His name was Helmut Dorn. After his dismissal he stayed in England and married there. The last thing I heared of him was that he died some years ago. Last month I visited the place where the camp was situated. But there is only a meadow, not even the rest of a foundation is left. Furthermore I couldn't find any information about this camp. As my friend Geoff Burden told me it was originally a military camp.
